Proposal

Woman and Chamomile

It was silent that night, I stare at her – sitting there with a cup of chamomile in her hands. She gazed and she lets the aroma filled her breath, and sipped. I cannot fathom what she could be looking at. Past.. present.. future.. joy.. sorrow.. or hope? Yes, maybe she was gazing at hope. I still remember how she so adore a statement from an English dramatist, Sir Arthur Pineto. “While there’s tea, there’s hope,” said he. And while there’s hope, there’s life and happiness.

I feel so jealous sometimes, the tea so freely kiss her lips and dominate her time. For a moment – it was only her and her tea. Had I been a photographer, I’d immortalize that moment as a photograph focused on the woman and her tea, with a blurry background. Yes, it was only her and her cup of chamomile tea.

I wanna be between her and her tea, I said.
I wanna be with her forever, for the rest of my time.
I stepped, trying to enter the sacred area between her and her tea.
I tried to control my breath – hoping it would help making me relax (though I know, chamomile would do so much better).

Will you marry me? I asked.

She stared at me back – looked at me intently. It’s almost like time stood still for a moment. Slowly tears start to fill her eyes. She gave me a smile.

Yes, she answered.

It was no longer silent that night. Now, there’s me and her… and a cup of chamomile tea.
